So. I just got back from lunch, and was informed, by my in-laws, of what I missed on the news.
So, apparently the good ol'law makers in Washington are really concerned with all the gas emissions in our good ol'America. The EPA in its Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) for regulating greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act is to levy a tax on livestock. The ANPR, released early this year, would give the EPA the authority to regulate greenhouse gas for not only greenhouse gas from man made sources like transportation and industry, but also "stationary" sources which would include livestock. So they are proposing a tax on cattle & pigs. Oh yes....if you have a cow or pig that craps...you will be taxed (I guess if doesn't you still will be taxed). $175 for dairy cattle, $87.50 for beef cattle, & $20 per pig. I know...you think i am making this up. Go ahead & google it.
Is that not the STUPIDEST thing you have EVER heard of?? Who comes up with this crap (pardon the play on words)??? Some of the stuff I have read says you must own a certain number of the animal before the tax is relevant to you, but for a dairy that owns 200 head....that equals $35,000.00. This will demolish the small dairy's, even some of the large ones. So what will this lead to?? Higher Milk, cheese, & ALL dairy prices. (When it cost me $5-7 dollars for a block of cheese in my town....I don't think it should be much higher.) It will also increase the cost of a steak. For those that raise beef cattle, 200 head will cost you $17,500.00 per year.
I don't know who is sitting thinking up these RIDICULOUS new laws, but I guarantee that are some vegetarian-tree huggers that have never stepped out of the city. (I can say that since I was once led a life of no meat!) I remember in high school, a friend brought some friends from New York to town, and they had never seen a cow. I was just amazed by that. But it makes since that there are millions of people who live that life. In the cement streets of a city with no access to small town or country life. It's just too bad that these are the people representing us in Washington...
As a family who raises pigs, and have cattle....this would be crippling to MANY families.
Oh...& Obama supposedly is in support of this "Clean Air Act"
This is just my Rant for the day. I know I don't know everything about this Act, but this was my two cents...

I believe my child, that you should have gotten your college degree in political action. You could have been a lobbyist! There may be a place for you in Austin!
Keep on preaching sweetie!
